Top Fishing Seasons in the Bahamas
Is there a “best” time?
If you've ever talked fishing with a group of anglers, you've probably heard a different answer from everyone when it comes to the "best" time to fish the Bahamas.
The truth is, there's really no bad time to go.
One of the things we love about the Bahamas is that every season offers something different. Whether you're chasing mahi offshore, trolling for wahoo, or spending a day on the flats, there's always a reason to grab your gear and head for the islands.
Spring: When Things Start Heating Up
As winter gives way to spring, the fishing starts getting really good. The weather is comfortable, the water is beautiful, and offshore species become more active.
Spring is a great time to target mahi, tuna, snapper, and grouper. It's also one of our favorite times to visit because the islands aren't as crowded as they can be later in the year.
Summer: Prime Time for Offshore Fishing
If you're dreaming about a cooler full of mahi and long days on the water, summer is hard to beat.
This is when many anglers plan their Bahamas trips. Mahi are plentiful, and there's always the chance of hooking into a marlin or tuna that you'll be talking about for years.
The Abacos and the Berry Islands are especially popular this time of year, and for good reason.
Fall: The Hidden Gem
Fall doesn't get nearly enough attention.
With fewer visitors and excellent fishing, it can be one of the most enjoyable times to be on the water. Wahoo fishing starts to pick up, and you'll still find plenty of opportunities for tuna, snapper, and grouper.
If you like a little more elbow room and a slower pace, fall might become your favorite season.
Winter: Escape the Cold and Go Fishing
While everyone back home is bundling up, you're only a short flight away from warm weather and clear blue water.
Winter is known for excellent wahoo fishing, and it's a great time to target sailfish as well. Bimini is a favorite destination because it's so close to South Florida, making it perfect for a quick weekend fishing trip.
So Where Should You Go?
If you're looking for a fast getaway, Bimini is tough to beat.
If you want endless beautiful water, incredible fishing, and a little more room to explore, head to the Abacos.
And if you're traveling with family members who want a mix of fishing, dining, beaches, and activities, Nassau offers a little bit of everything.
At the end of the day, the "best" fishing season in the Bahamas depends on what you're hoping to catch and the kind of trip you want to have. But one thing is certain—there's nothing quite like watching the Florida coastline disappear behind you and knowing you'll be dropping a line in Bahamian waters before long.
We love helping anglers get to the islands quickly and comfortably so they can spend less time traveling and more time doing what they came for: fishing.
